1583 It was a case of too little too late as the Bees rallied in the last four minutes and scored two goals right at the death. Some of the crowd had already left after Yeovils third and must be kicking themselves when they see the result on Ceefax. It was a typical Barnet performance, starting strongly and being mainly in control for the first half an hour, then letting the other team back in. Yeovil kicked off down the slope and instantly Barnet were on the attack. The ball broke through the middle to Roy Essandoh making his debut in the black and amber, he turned and shot but the ball hit the advancing keeper and looped up in the air. As it came down it looked like it was going in but hit the post and was cleared for a corner. Four minutes later and Essandoh was through on the keeper again, this time the ball hit the keeper and went past the keepers left post. Both sides had a couple of breaks without success and on twenty three minutes Barnet got a free kick on the right. The kick was cleared but it fell to Gower on the right who cut it back in and various players went for the ball. When it was cleared their number four was flat out on the floor and stretchered off. Yeovil then got into the game more and more and after thirty nine minutes the ball fell to one of their players on the edge of the box. With his back to goal he did an overhead kick and the ball struck the post. It bounced out to Crittenden who slotted into the goal. All through the game the referee made some strange decisions and booked Doolan and their number 12 at the end of the first half, followed by Yeovils 6, 11 and 8- and Bell for Barnet in the second half. Barnet kick off the second half and with fifty six minutes gone Yeovils Lee Johnson collected the ball in the middle of the pitch about twenty yards out. He shot and the ball flew into the net. It had come out of nothing after some good work by Flynn in the left corner who cleared the ball up the wing but somehow found its way across to Johnson. After this Brown was replaced by Purser but little changed and Barnet began a lot of hit and hope passing. On sixty five minutes Doolan and Midgley went off and bell and Taylor came on. Five minutes on Gledhill put in a cross from the right and Essendoh headed over. Barnet had a couple of near misses but on eighty two minutes a long ball was played out of the Yeovil half. It flew over everyone and Naisbitt came off his line to collect it. The ball bounced over his head and their striker ran round him and put in the open goal. This woke Barnet up scoring two quick goals. The first from Flynn on the edge of the box hit low and hard into the keepers bottom left corner. The second, from a corner on the right found Bell at the back of the Box. He crossed back in and Essandoh rose in the air and headed the ball in. With three minutes of added time Barnet couldnt get the equaliser and after a bit of skirmish near the end resulting in the bookings of Bell and their number 8 the referee blew for full time. |
