  The Season So Far

A lot has happened since Ben Strevens hit his hat-trick up at Nuneaten back in November, with the Bees going on to win 3-2.

Nuneaton, currently in mid table won thier last away game 2-1, at Forest Green Rovers, but previously lost 1-4 up at Boston. They also let in four at Stalybridge recently, although they did manage two themselves. Boro's last six away games have seen them concede twelve goals, scoring eight and with Barnet having one of the best home defensive records in the league it should be an interesting game.

So far under the expert guidance of Peter Shreeves and Martin Allen (not forgetting our own ''mad dog' Paul Wilson), Barnet have been in tremendous form, only losing once in seven starts.

With a confidence boosting 1-1 draw at Boston on Good Friday I don't expect the 'Mighty Bees' to be the 'April Fools' on Monday.

On Saturday Nuneaton pulled off a surprise victory against Dagenham & Redbridge at home, taking them to tenth place in the league, whilst Barnet are in fifth. If they beat us on Monday then they draw level on points, although they would need to beat us by four goals to go ahead on goal difference.

Did You Know?

In 1984/85 Nuneaton offered £4000 for Nicky Evans (a player who was held in very high esteem at the time). Although the offer was accepted (as the cash was needed) Nicky refused to leave and the deal was called off.

  History

Although Nuneaton Borough were formed in 1937 they can trace their origins back to 1889 when Nuneaton St. Nicholas was formed. This was later to become Nuneaton Town who had a couple of years in the Southern League in the 1920's.

After Town had been wound up, the new team played in the Central Alliance League and in 1938 turned semi-pro, joining the Birmingham Combination.

Following the Second World War they moved to the Birmingham League in 1952, winning it in 54/55 and 55/56. They also reached the third round of the FA cup in 49/50.

In 1958 they joined the Southern League, became founder members of the Premier Division in 1959 but only lasted the season.

1963 saw them back in the Premier and in 67 they were runners-up, also reaching the third round of the FA Cup with a record crowd of 22,114 squeezing into Manor Park against Rotherham United.

They were one of the founder members of the Alliance Premier League in 1979 and were relegated in 1981, but only for a year.

After promotion they finished second in 83/84 and 84/85 before things turned for the worst and were again relegated in 87 and in 88 right down to the Midland Division.

1990 saw a court winding-up notice and had to be reformed in 1991.

Winning the Midland Division in 92/93 saw them back in the Premier but only for a year and 94/95 saw them at their lowest position for many a year.

In 1995/96 Brendan Phillips took over the Managerial reigns and won the Midland Division and Southern League Cup.

Steve Burr joined Phillips in 98/99 and they went on to win the Premier League comfortably with 90 points, 23 ahead of Boston United.

Back in the Conference they finished in 15th place in 99-00 and 13th last season.
