  The Season So Far

Morcambe are having a good run at the moment, currently lying 6th in the table (as of 3/3/02).

Their home form is pretty impressive with only one defeat in the last six. Unfortunately this was a 1-5 drubbing by Yeovil two weeks ago.The other five were all won, with our last opponants Hayes going down 2-1 on 19 January.

Fortunately for the Bees, The Shrimps away record is not so good. Recently they have only won one of their last nine games, with four others drawn. In fact their last away win was back on 1 December when they beat Nuneaton Borough 3-2.

Earlier in the season our lads went up to Morcambe and lost 0-1. But with our new managerial set-up and the team looking on the way back to its true potential after Saturday, it's looking good for the Bees.

Don't miss this match! Lets give Peter Shreeves and Martin Allen a home welcoming they'll never forget.

Neil Midgley could be back in the squad for the clash against Morecambe. Midgley missed the 2-0 win at Hayes, Peter Shreeves’ first game in charge, with a hamstring injury. Ben Strevens (thigh) is also doubtful while youngster Leon Bell could start.

Morecambe will again be without top scorer Robbie Talbot. The 15-goal striker, who netted the only goal in the reverse fixture against the Bees at Christie Park in September, has been sidelined all year with damaged knee ligaments.

  History

Morcambe were formed in 1920 and joined the Lancashire Combination. They played at Woodhill Lane but moved to Roseberry Park the following season. They won the league in 1924/25 and were runners up the next term. The ground was re-named Christie Park.

From 1927 to the end of the War Morcambe were not very succesful, but finished fourth in the 46/47 season.

1960/61 was possibly their best season when they were League Champions, Lancashire Junior Cup Winners, also reaching the 3rd round of the FA Cup losing 0-1 to Weymouth in front of a record crowd of 9,234.

1966/67 was another good one, winning the League and Combination Cup. This was achieved again the following season, also being the first non-league club to win the Lancashire Senoir Cup.

In 1973/74 Morcambe triumphed at Wembley, beating Dartford 2-1 in the FA Trophy.

Then a ten year baron period followed, with financial problems and poor performances on the pitch, but the 1985/86 season saw a third place (Northern League) League position and winning the Junior Cup.

1994/95 sees Morcambe getting promotion into the Conference after finishing runners-up.They finished 9th in their first season.

Chritie Park has had a lot of money spent on it and is now up to League standard.

Morcambes most succesful season in the Conference so far was 1999/2000 when they finished third.
