  The Season So Far

Carlisle haven't got off to the best of starts this season, currently lying in 22nd position. It's the same as they ended last season, but they're used to this, having finished 23rd for the two previous seasons to that.

It took until Tuesday September the 18th for them to notch up they're first win this term. That was a 2-1 win over York City. Since then they've only won two more matches, both 1-0 at home, against Bristol Rovers and Kidderminster Harriers.

They've drawn three at home losing the other three, the last being on Saturday 0-1 to Mansfield Town.

Away from home they're not any better, with four draws bringing in the points, the other five lost, the heaviest being 1-3 to Hartlepool United.

They haven't faired any better in Cup competitions, losing away in both the League and LDV Cups.

It looks quite promising from Barnet's point of view and with our form in all competitions soaring, not to mention two league scalps already, we should win this one!!

History

In 1904 a team named Shaddongate United changed their name to Carlisle United, joining the Lancashire Combination the following year. They moved to their current home- Brunton Park- in 1909 and joined the Northern Eastern League in 1910.

They won this league in 1921/22 and in 1928 played their first match in League Division 3 North, having to be re-elected at the end of the 34/35 season.

With Bill Shankley in his first managerial post Carlisle finished in their highest ever placing in Div 3 north, also drawing 0-0 at Arsenal in 1951.

1958 saw them take their place in Division 4, winning promotion in 61/62, but only for a season.

1963/64 brings promotion again, this time building on it being Division 3 Champions that season as well.

Incredibly Carlisle win promotion to the old Division 1 in 73/74, but glory only lasts a season and despite reaching the Quarter finals of the FA cup, losing to Fulham, they returned to Division 2.

Carlisle then had a bit of up and down movement, finally ending up in Division four in 1987.

In 1992 they finished bottom of the Football League, But are spared relegation to the Conference thanks to the departure of Aldershot mid-season.

They've been up and down a couple of times in the late 90's but only for a season at a time. They got to Wembley in the Auto Windscreens Cup, losing to Birmingham City, to the first ever golden goal in 1995, returning two later to win the competition in a penalty shoot-out against Colchester.

After relegation to Division 3 in 97/98, they've finished 23rd twice and 22nd once.
