Wilson Returns

This article (which had been abridged from the Official Site) originally appeared as a footnote to the doomed Farnborough preview. As that page has been taken offline, and because it is Paul Wilson, here it is again, with a bit more info about the one they used to refer to as "Psycho", or "Mad-Dog"!

Paul Wilson, who recently returned to Barnet, has been appointed first team coach. following the departure of 37-year-old Ian Culverhouse.

He takes over the reigns from Ian Culverhouse, who has been at Barnet since August 2000, and first team coach since August 2001.

Wilson, 37, was a Barnet legend as a player. He joined the club in 1988 and was the last player to stop playing for Barnet from the side that won the Conference back in 1991. He turned out over 400 times.

When he returned to Underhill a few weeks ago as a coach after finishing playing at Boston, chairman Tony Kleanthous said:"He bleeds black and amber. He is Barnet through and through. He epitomises the spirit that the club needs".

The chairman has wished Ian Culverhouse all the best for the future and thanked him for what he has done at Barnet.

John Still reckons the appointment of Paul Wilson as first-team coach will provide just the lift the club needs.

“I thought it was an ideal situation for everybody when he finished at Boston and I’ve known him for a long time. “He’s been a good assistant so far. I know him well because he used to be a player here and he jumped at the chance to come in.”

Regarding the departure of Ian Culverhouse, Still said:

“I knew it was going to happen because Ian made it clear he wanted to work with youth rather than the first team. “But we haven’t got a Centre of Excellence any more. Obviously we have a youth team but there is nothing to come through from the Centre and so Ian wasn’t sure there would be an ongoing position at the club.”

And the future?

“I’ve been happy with the way we’ve played and we won’t be changing any-thing just because Paul is here. “We have been unlucky in recent matches and promotion is going to be tough but I won’t rule it out. We’re not in a position to strengthen the squad but we’ll make the most of what we’ve got.”.
