Conference Press Release
24
January 2002
Below is
the weekly Press Release from the Conference League
barnet
Barnet boss John Still has a fully-fit squad to choose
from ahead of the game against Farnborough. The Bees, who
have lost their last three games, are hopeful that home
advantage will give them an edge. Still said: "We
have not been scoring in the last few games, but I think
playing at home gives us the the initiative."
boston united
Boston's hopes of extending their 15-match unbeaten run
in the Conference have been hit by suspensions to two key
players. Daryl Clare, the club's top scorer this season
with 12 goals, is serving a one-match ban along with
central defender Mark Clifford. Also likely to be missing
is Mark Monington (foot).
chester city
Chester have no injury or suspension worries to contend
with for the trip to face Nuneaton. Mark Wright's side
are still without long-term injury victim Carl Ruffer,
but otherwise it will be the same squad which beat
Telford 3-0. New signing Brian McGorry, loan signing Phil
Bolland and Stuart Whittaker are all expected to be in
the squad.
dagenham & redbridge
Dagenham boss Garry Hill is still without Mark Stein for
the trip to face Woking. Stein, who has scored 16 goals
so far this season, has been out of action since the FA
Cup win against Exeter in December. Hill said: "It's
going to be very hard. We are both battling for points
and they have got some good players."
doncaster rovers
Dave Penney is set to make just the one change to his
side when Doncaster play host to Stevenage. Young
goalkeeper Matthew Ghent will be handed his debut after
moving to Belle Vue on loan from Barnsley. The
21-year-old will take the place of Andy Warrington, who
is expected to be out for at least three weeks with a
groin injury.
dover athletic
Dover boss Neville Southall is likely to name an
unchanged side when the Whites take on Forest Green
Rovers at the Lawn. Winger Steve Norman will be absent
from the match as he serves a one-game suspension.
Southall is confident despite a run of three consecutive
defeats and said: "We're actually looking forward to
the match."
farnborough town
Farnborough are boosted by the return of Steve Watson
after a four-match ban when they travel to Barnet. But
fellow midfielder Dean Green is ruled out as he serves
the first game of his three-match suspension. Striker
Miguel de Souza is making excellent progress after his
back injury, but the game is likely to come too soon for
him.
forest green rovers
Forest Green Rovers will be without striker Nathan
Lightbody for the rest of the season. Lightbody broke his
leg in two places on Tuesday during the Gloucester
Charity Cup. Press officer Heather Cook said: "We
want to continue our good performances, win the game on
Saturday and get some good points in the bag."
hayes
Hayes manager Terry Brown is hoping to have Matt Gray
back from injury for the game against Yeovil. The
Missioners are without Ian Hodges and Lee Holsgrove
because of suspension and are still missing David
Everitt, who is suffering from a dislocated shoul-der.
Brown said: "It will be a difficult game for us."
hereford united
Hereford are waiting on the fitness of Danny Davidson for
their trip to Haig Avenue to face Southport. Davidson has
sustained an ankle injury and is in doubt for the match,
while Gavin Williams will definitely miss out as he
serves a one-match ban. Goalkeeper Matt Baker is back in
training after recovering from illness.
leigh rmi
Leigh RMI boss Steve Waywell has the luxury of choosing
from a fully-fit squad for the trip to Northwich. Waywell
is worried about Vics boss and veteran striker Jimmy
Quinn who is still banging in the goals at the age of 42.
"We've got to watch him," he said. "He
still keeps getting onto the scoresheet and he's a big
danger."
margate
Margate striker Phil Collins is rated very doubtful for
the visit of Scarborough. Collins sustained a slight tear
in his thigh and manager Chris Kinnear will give him
until the last minute to prove his fitness. Midfielder
Gareth Graham is also facing a race against time as he
tries to shake off an ankle injury.
morecambe
Morecambe boss Jim Harvey has no new injury worries as he
prepares his team for the trip to Telford. Despite the
Shrimps being in fourth place, Harvey is playing down
their chances of promotion. He said: "We're not in
the race for promotion but we've got some good young
players and we're getting them some experience."
northwich victoria
Northwich player-boss Jimmy Quinn will be without Denny
Ingram for the visit of Leigh RMI. The centre-half is
serving the first game of a two-match ban that will also
keep him out of the midweek game with Morecambe. Quinn
said: "We've been playing quite well at home and the
quicker we can get points in the bag the better."
nuneaton borough
Nuneaton boss Steve Burr has hinted that he could be
forced into making a few changes to his side for the home
game against Chester. Burr said: "We have one or two
problems with lads who have picked up knocks over the
last few weeks and haven't been able to shake them off."
scarborough
Scarborough manager Russell Slade has doubts over two
players ahead of the long trip to Margate. Midfielder
Adam Burley, who is on loan from Sheffield United, is
suffering with a dead leg. Mark Hotte is also a doubt as
he missed training on Thursday with a stomach bug. Scott
Jordan (hamstring) and Marcus Jones (knee) are out.
southport
Southport welcome back striker Steve Whitehall and
utility player Neil Grayston from suspension for the home
clash with Hereford. Both players missed the defeat at
Stevenage because of one-match bans. Manager Phil Wilson
said: "Hereford are a big, strong and powerful side
and I think it will be a hard one for us."
stalybridge celtic
Stalybridge boss Paul Futcher must prepare his side for
the daunting task of facing Boston United with one major
injury doubt. Defender Matthew Woods is still struggling
with his hamstring problem and looks set to miss out as
the struggling Badgers attempt to bring to an end Boston's
15-match unbeaten run in the league.
stevenage borough
Stevenage boss Paul Fairclough has no fresh injury
concerns ahead of the clash with Doncaster. Stevenage
have won their last two games but Fairclough knows
Doncaster will provide a tough test. He said: "They've
had some changes at the top but are still getting results
and it's a big game."
telford united
Telford will be without Ashley Wooliscroft for the visit
of Morecambe. Kevin Davies is likely to come in at
right-back for Wooliscroft, who is missing through
suspension. Boss Jake King said: "We have some tired
legs and could do with freshening up the squad but
we,re not able to bring anybody in at the moment."
woking
Woking boss Geoff Chapple will make a couple of changes
to his side when they host Dagenham. Steve Perkins is
likely to sit out the game with a broken toe, but Barry
Moore should return to the side after suspension. Chapple
said: "We're still sitting there on 28 points. We
really need to get away and up into the 30s now."
yeovil town
Yeovil boss Gary Johnson is hopeful that Darren Way and
Colin Pluck will be fit to tackle Hayes. Midfielder Way
and defender Pluck are both suffering from minor
injuries, but Johnson is confident they will recover in
time. Johnson said: "It is a big game for both
teams. You don't want to be left behind in any of the
games."
