Conference Press Release

15 February 2002

barnet

Barnet boss John Still has only one absentee for the long trip north to face Leigh RMI. Still has an injury-free squad but must cope without the services of midfielder John Doolan. Doolan must serve a one-match suspension after being shown his fifth yellow card of the season.

boston united

Boston are set to sign Rushden & Diamonds defender Jim Rodwell. The experienced centre-half has fallen out of favour with Brian Talbot’s men and has recently spent a month on loan with Dagenham & Redbridge. Rodwell, 31, has played 13 times for Rushden this season and once for Dagenham.

chester city

Chester have snapped up Hereford defender Mark Williams. The former Rochdale and Rotherham man left Edgar Street under a cloud following a breach of club rules. Williams, signed in the summer, has played 13 times for the Bulls this season but has been out of the first team picture in recent months.

dagenham & redbridge

Dagenham boss Garry Hill has no fresh injury problems to contend with ahead of the mouthwatering clash with Yeovil at Huish Park. Hill said: ‘It’s a massive, massive game. They are going along brilliantly at the moment and it’s a huge game for both sides. We’ve been stumbling a little bit.’

doncaster rovers

Doncaster’s Neil Campbell and Matty Caudwell return from suspension for the visit of Margate. Boss Dave Penney is still without Kevin McIntyre, who has a broken bone in a foot, although Justin Jackson (groin), Andy Marple (bruised ribs) and Andy Warrington (thigh) are only a couple of weeks away from comebacks.

dover athletic

Dover boss Neville Southall has a couple of injury concerns going into the basement battle with Scarborough. Defender Lee Shearer is struggling with an ankle injury and Kristian James (hamstring) is also doubtful. Southall said: ‘Results have not gone for us lately so we will have to do it ourselves.’

farnborough town

Farnborough manager Graham Westley has the luxury of a full squad to pick from for the clash against Telford. Dean Green returns after a three-match ban and Joff Vansittart rejoins the squad after a groin injury. Westley’s men have lost four of their last five Nationwide Conference matches.

forest green rovers

Forest Green manager Nigel Spink has no fresh injuries to contend with for the clash with Stevenage. Both sides slumped to disappointing defeats last weekend, Stevenage losing 4-1 to Woking and Forest Green crashing to a home loss against Doncaster. Mark Shaw and Nathan Lightbody remain long-term absentees.

hayes

Terry Brown is hoping to have added to his Hayes squad by the time Northwich visit Church Road. Brown is on the verge of completing a move for striker Steve Hale from Northwood and is also hoping to sign a central defender, possibly on loan. The Missioners boss said: ‘These things are never done until they’re signed and sealed.’

hereford united

Hereford will be in action in front of the Sky television cameras on Monday night when they travel to Boston. Confidence will be high after Hereford hammered Hampton & Richmond 4-1 in the FA Trophy fourth round. Goals from Matthew Clarke, Tony James (penalty), Gavin Williams and Ian Wright sealed victory.

leigh rmi

Leigh boss Steve Waywell expects to have a fully-fit squad for the home game against Barnet. Dave Ridings is the only injury doubt after he took a kick to the calf during the 1-0 win at Hereford. But Waywell said: ‘I think Dave will be OK. He would have been struggling if we’d played in midweek.’

margate

Margate manager Chris Kinnear should have a few more options in his squad for the trip to Doncaster. He welcomes midfielder Lee Williams and defender Simon Beard back from suspension. Jay Saunders is also expected to make a return to the squad after missing two games with a groin strain.

morecambe

Morecambe have plenty of time to reflect on their 5-1 hammering by high-flying Yeovil in the Conference as they are not back in action until Februar y 23. They travel to tackle Scarborough in the fifth round of the FA Trophy, having thrashed Gresley 5-0 in the previous round.

northwich victoria

Northwich boss Jimmy Quinn will be without skipper Gary Talbot for the trip to west London to face Hayes. Talbot is suspended, while Val Owen could also miss out as he is doubtful with a damaged toe. Quinn said: ‘Considering we’ve got one of the smallest budgets in the Conference, I think we’ve done exceptionally well.’

nuneaton borough

Nuneaton boss Steve Burr welcomes Dave Crowley back from suspension for the clash with in-form Stalybridge. Richard Lavery will have a late fitness test after having stitches in a foot wound following the game with Southport. New signings Jason Harris (striker) and Jason Pearcey (goalkeeper) are both added to the squad.

scarborough

Scarborough boss Russell Slade has four of his first-team squad ruled out for the game at Dover. Defender Shaun Rennison, midfielder Jason Blunt and forwards Mark Patterson and Paul Shepherd are all suspended for the long trip to the South coast. But midfielder Marcus Jones returns from injury.

southport

Southport boss Phil Wilson will welcome Chris Lane back into his squad for the home game against Woking. The defender is back from the suspension he incurred for being sent off in the 2-1 defeat at Stevenage. Striker Steve Whitehall is doubtful for the game because of his ankle injury.

stalybridge celtic

After three successive victories in all competitions, Stalybridge boss Paul Futcher is hoping they will continue their winning run against Nuneaton. He said: ‘Confidence is high after two Conference wins and one in the FA Umbro Trophy. There are loads of games coming up and loads of points to play for. ‘

stevenage borough

Stevenage boss Paul Fairclough admits his team need to collect points quickly to avoid being sucked into a relegation dogfight. After a 4-1 home defeat against Woking last week, Fairclough said: ‘The game with Forest Green has taken on epic proportions for both sides as we don’t want to get drawn in at the bottom.’

telford united

Telford manager Jake King claims his side won’t fear a trip to Farnborough because they prefer to play away from home. They have only lost three away matches in the league this season, but are without Kevin Jobling due to a groin strain. King said: ‘At home we play too much and get caught but away we have more options.’

woking

Woking boss Geoff Chapple expects to name an unchanged starting line-up for the third consecutive game. The Cardinals’ last two outings have seen them score eight goals on the way to taking three much-needed points in the Conference and booking a place in the last 16 of the FA Trophy.

yeovil town

Yeovil’s main injury doubt ahead of their home clash against second-placed Dagenham & Redbridge is influential playmaker Steve Thompson. The experienced Glovers player-coach has a calf strain and will undergo a late fitness test. Fit-again midfielder Darren Way comes back into the reckoning for third-placed Yeovil.
