Kitting Out The Keepers

Following a chance conversation with the Father of the Youth Keeper, Ricky Millard, it transpired that the keepers buy their own equipment. This includes their gloves, binding and hold-alls (to carry it all in!).

This came out while Steve (Percy - Chair of BFCSA) was chatting to Ricky's father while watching a Youth game last season. Ricky had split a glove and his father merely mentioned that that was another pair of gloves that would need replacing. Steve was surprised to learn that other than the kit (shirt, shorts, socks) the players purchase remaining equipment (such as boots) themselves. This, of course, meant that the goalies had a lot more to buy than everyone else.

After further conversation with first-team keeper, Lee Harrison, Steve realised that this extra expense costs the keepers around £150 each, per season.

The BFCSA committee decided that instead of sponsoring one of the players this season, they would use this money to go towards providing the keepers with this equipment.

A few weeks ago Steve presented Lee with a cheque for around £500, which should keep all three keepers in gloves, binding and other such things for this season.

Lee said "On behalf of the three keepers at the club, I would like to say thank you to the BFCSA for their help in supplying the goalkeepers equipment this season."
