BARNET Football Club and their supporters association plan to make Underhill the finest amateur football ground In North London. This new, strongly built hut, which will be completed by the beginning of the football season is the first big step in their programme. It has been provided by the supporters at a cost of about £1,800, and has realised the long-standing need for a recreation and dining-room for the players.

The provision of the hut has been made possible by the success of the supporters football pool. It has been built under an agreement with Barnet Council, who have undertaken to drain the ground if the football club will have the old and dilapidated tea hut at the bottom of the ground replaced by a new one.

SUPPORTERS SOON BUSY

As soon as the hut was erected the supporters moved in and were soon busy painting and papering to make the building attractive inside. Outside, as our photograph shows, more supporters were busy tidying up the surrounds and preparing the ground ready for concreting.

On the left of the building is the kitchen, which is also the tea bar at which spectators can obtain refreshments during matches. The actual dining and recreation room is not for general use by spectators, but any supporters wishing to inspect the building may do so before the beginning of the season.

FOR TRAINING NIGHTS

The new hut will also be used extensively on training nights when club supporters will provide all the players with a warm meal. The club and the supporters' association also believe that the playing fields in the surrounding areas still contain as many good players as they have produced in the past, and they want to encourage promising young players to join the town club.

Recreational facilitates at the hut will include table tennis. The supporters will be pleased to hear from anyone who can provide a table. Cr. H.E. Hewes, chairman of the football club, is to provide dart equipment.

NEXT OPERATION

After they have completed the hut, the next operation - a joint effort between the club and supporters - is to lay new concrete terracing behind the bottom goal.

The club and the Supporters were meeting this week to map out a programme for further improvements. As money becomes available these improvements will be carried out to provide better amenities for players and spectators.

Although it was not possible to make an early enough start to carry out the drainage work on the pitch, the work on the drainage around the pitch is almost completed. This in itself should bring about a considerable improvement.
