Programme
Notes Quiz time tonight The superb excellent General Knowledge quiz, organised by Eddie and Margaret Thompson took place after the Torquay game. The majority of the questions were asked by Edward Eldred, and false modesty does not prevent me from bragging to being part of the winning team, along with Dave Warner, Phil Brown and Mark Ashfield. Comfortably Numb was our name and we beat off the challenge of teams such as Were Going to Braintree, and the even more pessimistic Thursday Night in Barrow. Travel arrangements There are two BFCSA excursions forthcoming. Firstly we travel to Cheltenham next Saturday. Coaches depart from the Odeon at 10.0am, with a flat fare for the minibus of £25. You will need to sign up as Association members on the day, if you are not already. The number on which to book is 01707 647365, making clear which of the games you wish to attend. The good news is that membership has been reduce for the rest of the season. That is followed the following Tuesday by the rearranged game at Southend. With a departure time of.5.0pm, and fares of either £20 or £15 concessions. Alternatively, speak to Steve Percy to book. These trips are organised independently of the club, who as such cannot be held liable for any losses incurred. The BFCSA, still suffering because of the lack of support, high fuel costs and general economic situation, has changed the pricing bands. Golden selection This week we are indebted to Phil Brown, whose Barnet watching career goes back to 1977, when he was one of the original punk rockers. He has selected two teams, firstly a formidable ensemble which he has named his Best Barnet X1; Maik Taylor, Linvoy Primus, Simon King, Dave Barnett, Kenny Lowe, PaulHarding, Nicky Bailey, Andy Clarke, Dougie Freedman and Marlon King. The subs for this attacking minded squad are Gary Bull, Jason Puncheon and Robert Codner. Secondly a side of well loved and fondly remembered players which he has christened the Spirit of Barnet X1; Gary Phillips, Sam Stockley, Geoff Cooper, Greg Heald, Alan Walker, Eddie Stein, Paul Wilson, John Margerrison, Darren Currie, Nicky Evans and Mark Carter. Warming the bench for the second selection are Giuliano Grazioli, Roger Willis and Ian Hendon. Ah, how the sweet memories come flooding back. Suggest your own team by contacting me on alex_jones1965@hotmail.co.uk Home counties quiz The team registered their first victory of the season against Derby County, a League Cup tie played at the Old Red. The side consisted of Daren West, John Errol, Nick Sandemas and Murray Craig. Supporters team FCBFCSA were at home to Watford this morning but sadly suffered their first defeat in awhile a fortnight ago, losing 2-1 to Millwall, even though Luke Watling scored for the first time, and the lads wore their new purple shirts sponsored by Krisp Property Services for the first time. Some of the Lions players definitely evoked the memory of Harry Cripps. It was a bitterly cold day at the Hive. Pop master round 2 It is always intriguing as to what tunes are randomly adopted by the Terraces. Those Bees fans who have been singing I Will Follow recently were advised of the origins in the last programme. Now this season we have also heard Eighties Reggae star Shabba Ranks revived- as in Mr Loverman-Kabba. The Champion Lover melody dates back even further. Even stranger was the tune appropriated to Tommy Fraser. Years ago Boney M were the biggest band on the planet, although the hit Gotta Go Home came as their fortunes were starting to wane. The intro was recently adopted by the Italian DJs Duck Sauce, under the unlikely title of Barbra Streisand and indeed the only words spoken on the recording. The large nosed diva has the same amount of syllables in her name as Tommy. The reaction of his granddad has yet to be documented- hopefully it was favourable. Good luck to the Bees |
