Lester Finch Trophy

Tony Hammond aka Reckless was awarded the Lester Finch Award for outstanding service to Barnet Football club and its supporters last night. He was rendered speechless, when his compering was interrupted by Eddie Thompson the Chairman of the BFCSA to announce the award.

Reckless has been a familiar and much loved face at the club for 43 years. He epitomises all that is good about Barnet FC. He bleeds Black and Amber, and mucks in to help whenever he can. He is a jack of all trades and master of all!

For years he has provided crucial guidance to supporters in getting to away games with his Reckless guides in the programmes. His contact list of former players is phenomenal. He is a walking alumni of Barnet legends. His Reckless reminiscences in programmes about past matches, and interviews with former players are always a must read.

He has sang for the club, putting on fundraising nights with his band , "Or Wot." Other than meeting the Beatles, Gerry Marsden, the Nolan Sisters and Five Star, he remembers this as the highlight of his pop career.

He has gamefully manned the tannoy in Dick Rolfe's absence, and compered many an event. He has helped organise many of the most successful events at our club, including the centenary dinner, and the Barry Fry and Paul Fairclough conference trophy photo shoot.

He has served on and chaired the testimonial committee of past players, tirelessly working to make them a success, bouncing back from a few health scares along the way.

Currently he is helping organising the Lee Harrison testimonial. Lee was tipped off that Reckless had won the award, but was unable to change a prior arrangement to present the trophy. He was upset that he couldn't be there on Reckless's special night but said that he was delighted that Reckless had won the award. He couldn't think of a worthier winner.

It was the guest list at Reckless' 50th birthday recently that showed the affection and high esteem he is held in around the place. A cross section of players, management and supporters from Reckless' years of supporting the Bees.

Reckless joins an illustrious list of supporters to have won the award including Steve Percy, Janet Matthewson, John Adkins, and last year's winner Rob Robertson.

Congratulations mate.
