Programme Notes Alex Jones IAN HENDON We are in an unaccustomed position at present, jostling with teams in the playoff positions for the first time in over a decade. The reaction to our brief tenure on top of League 2 was understandably jubilant, but a tad over the top in some cases. Credit then to our young manager and his coaching staff for moulding this promising squad together, whist being realistic. We have every right to be proud of this team, but it is where we finish in May that is the litmus test. In the mean time tell your friends about the fine flowing football seen at Underhill, and encourage them to come along. Bradford City will prove a sturdy test today, steadily climbing the Division after a disappointing start. TRAVEL BULLETIN On Saturday 26th September we travel to the Don Valley Stadium, scene of possibly our most outstanding victory last season, to take on Rotherham United. Please specify for which trip you are booking. As with all fixtures you need to be a BFCSA member to travel, but you are welcome to sign up on the day. That will cost £30 adults or else £25 for over 60s or under 16s. The travel line is 01707 647365. You can also see Steve Percy to book. The trip to Yorkshire leaves at 9.30am. We have been blessed with a difficult trip to the Valley to take on Charlton Athletic in the Johnstones Paint Trophy and the coach that evening departs the Odeon at 5.0pm with prices of £10, that is £5 concessions, a Band A fixture. JOIN THE BFCSA To join our organisation, download the application form or find Steve Mann or another Committee member. Several fans have already this season talked to Committee members or e-mailed us on info@bfcsa.co.uk and you are welcome to do the same, if you have any issues or comments. Send your forms with the correct remittance to the Membership Secretary at 63 Western Way, Barnet EN5 2BU. To join the Association costs just £10 [£5 concessions], and there are several social events planned for which there will be reduced or free members admission. Also this page will soon be reproduced on the BFCSA website after the game, for those who cannot make Underhill and like to keep abreast of Association news. I believe that Sam Norris still has a few of the must have summer fashion accessories which are the white BFCSA polo shirts priced at a staggering £12. PROGRAMMES As I left Torquay, it was good to see Bill Creswell and his lad Aiden. Bill has been living in Devon for some years now. You may remember that he had the most amazing collection of Barnet programmes, some of which were uniquely stored under the stage floorboards at Camden School for Girls. The collection has got less out of necessity, but Bill is still willing to help find the odd match day magazine that may be missing from your collection. With this in mind please contact Bill at his new email address williamcreswell747@btintenet.com Bill largely follows Ilfracombe these days, so was pleased to see his first victory in several years. What he actually thought of the orange morph suits is not recorded, but this unique uniform made several national newspapers as well as the League show. The BBC1 programme seems to be settling down, and avoiding some of the strange cross channel interruptions that marred the very first edition a few weeks ago. BARNET PLAYER If there are any people failing to get the live Barnet World commentary, just consult with the Association website, where Barry Swain has provided a step by step guide for those who may be experiencing difficulties. He does point out that the problem is not always to do with Barnet FC/ptv and this could be attributable to the individuals computer or software. If, after following the detailed instructions you are still experiencing interference, send an e-mail to the commentary team at barnetplayer@live.co.uk FCBFCSA Team BFCSA manager and Sky Sport star John Hunt has been busy arranging fixtures so today they entertained WHAM! or West Ham United. Consult their website and go and see them at home to Watford a fortnight hence. They are even looking forward to a tournament known as WorldNet next summer, and would welcome a sponsor either now or in June. WEBSITE Just a very early signpost for your diary that the International Day, organised by Village will take place on Saturday March 27th after and before the Burton Albion day. You mat recall the several Italians largely from Ivrea had a splendid day at Underhill last spring. Also on the website there is a special interview which Reckless was given by Roger Figg, the former Bees legend. Roger scored over 250 goals in eight seasons during the Sixties, and formed quite a formidable partnership with Les Eason and Tony Harding. Read it all at www.barnetfc.co.uk OUR KEN The BFCSA Life Vice President Ken Springett would like to thank all that helped him after he fell as he departed the Macclesfield coach. We wish him well in his recovery. On a personal level I really appreciate the kind words recently, and the mention in the Shrewsbury programme. WELCOME BACK Well done to Will Viner for winning a contract at the club. I was talking to some of his former Hendon teammates recently when I made my first visit to Short Lane, home of Ashford Town [Middlesex]. They have a really friendly set up, including, crucially wooden league ladders depicting the Ryman Premier as it finished last season, although someone had stolen Dover Athletic. They should get some for the Pavilion, I reckon. Well done also to the team for the point up in Macclesfield, a place where we have enjoyed little joy in recent years. Good luck to the Bees. |
