A fan from Brazil

You may have noticed in the Signy Says section of the Macclesfield programme a photo of David Pereira Garcia Jr from Brazil.

He also contacted the BFCSA and has provided a bit of background to the trophy in the photograph. He also explains why he came to adopt Barnet as his second team. It will come as no surprise to many of you that this was through PC football games...

He writes:

The trophies are from the 1983 World Club Cup, played in Tokyo - Japan, won by Grêmio FBPA against Hamburg SV (2-1 extra time).

Grêmio is one of the most important football teams in Brazil - founded 1903. They've won Brazilian Championship (1981, 1996), Brazilian Cup (1989, 1994, 1997, 2001), South American Copa Libertadores (1983, 1995), World Club Cup (1983 - against Hamburg - Runner up 1995, against Ajax FC).

Last year, Grêmio has been relegated to National second division, but the team is pushing for a promotion this year.

Two of the most important people in international footbal scenario nowadays have been "born" at Olímpico (the home of Grêmio): Ronaldinho Gaúcho (Barcelona FC - the best player of the world - FIFA), and Luis Felipe Scolari (Brazilian Coach in 2002 World Cup Japan/Korea - now Portuguese coach).

This is the official website of Grêmio - Portuguese only: www.gremio.net

Actually, my interest about Barnet began because my interest about English Football - for me English people are Football Fanatic, just as Brazilian are. As I love Manager games (like Football Manager), I've tried to pick a one traditional club from London area, at lower divisions. My obvious choice was Barnet.

In the Game, I took Barnet to the First Division - Actual Championship (within 5 seasons), killing some giants in cup competitions (Newcastle, Liverpool...)

Since then, I regularly follow Barnet's achievments, accessing the BBC webpage to check the results of games, etc, the club website, the BFCSA, etc. I founded a Community at Orkut page. If you are an Orkut Member, check it:

I have plans to visit London and England one day. One of my "pre-scheduled" visits is the Barnet area, and Underhill Stadium.

Here are some other pictures from Grêmio Stadium - with a Barnet fan inside!
