Nationwide Conference By Hector J Boyce With the home side 19 points ahead before kick off, the Hereford players and fans alike seemed confident, having held Barnet to a 1-1 draw at home back in November. The Barnet line up was missing Yakubu, replaced by impressive new signing Anthony Charles. This was a big game, one that both managers would have had circled at the beginning of the season, however it was Barnet who got the brighter start, with a panicky Hereford clearance from a Bailey corner rebounding off the crossbar. Barnet were commanding the opening stages of the game, with Charles and King playing solidly at the back, not letting anything through. However there was an air of complacency around Dwane Lee which we have seen all to often this season. This would later prove to be costly. It took Hereford 20 minutes to manufacture a shot on goal. Anthony Charles cut out an attempted through ball to Carey-Bertram which fell to Williams who forced Tynan to get low and right. Bailey was elbowed in the 26th minute by Danny Williams, Hendon played it long to Hatch who, using his aerial dominance, played it off to Grazioli, sharp keeping by Mawson denied Grazioli an effort on goal. Dwane Lee's biggest (and arguably only) contribution to the game came 2 minutes later, winning the ball in the Barnet half and running it past a static Hereford midfield, he pulled it back and rolled it across the area to Bailey, who could only manage to put it over the bar, disappointing, and out of character with the in-form Bailey. In the 34th minute Hereford earned a free-kick, however it was taken a significant distance in front of where it should have been. The out of place free-kick went to Danny Williams who played through Carey-Bertram, who fed the ball through Tynan's legs. A questionable 'goal' - the Barnet front two made sure the referee and his assistant understood the uncertainty looming over it. The rest of the Half was quiet from Barnet's point of view, Hatch getting himself booked just before Half-Time. Second Half The second half began, and as the players came on, the rain came down. Barnet's start to the second half brought about the most promising signs of a goal from Barnet. In the 43rd minute Charles brought the ball forward, and fed it right to Hatch, who in turn found Graham in the area, his shot was just tipped wide by an expert save from Mawson. It became clear in the 53rd minute, when Hatch brought down Joe Anyinsah, that his yellow card was not going to stop him giving it his all, going for every ball. Carey-Bertram seemed to find a lot of space down the left, breaking on a number of occasions, possibly Bailey's free role left Barnet vulnerable on the Right Wing. Barnet's performance in the second half was uninspiring, and it was no surprise therefore, when in injury time Hereford doubled their lead. Hereford picked up on a loose pass in midfield feeding through Adam Stansfield, who made no mistake in making Tynan look pretty average for the first time this season. It was a bad day for Barnet, our performance was not up to its usual standard, but it must be said that Hereford were luck, with two very dubious goals, the second reckoned to be offside by nearly everyone in the ground, apart from the assistant referee and probably Adam Stansfield. On the bright side though, Carlisle drew so our lead stayed at 15 points, and Anthony Charles played well. However, a lesson must be learnt, we have two key fixtures coming up, with Aldershot at home on the 26th, our closest threat currently. Quotes from the Manager "The best team won by a mile. If it had stayed 1-0 to Hereford it would have been an injustice. "They just played us off the park. Once they weathered the early storm, they were superb, absolutely magnificent. "It is difficult to assess our performance in a game like that, when we have been dominated by the opponents." Match Photos Sixteen photos of the game by Chris Holland.
