Match Preview
After last weekends 2-1 reverse at home to Bath City in the FA Cup, it is time for the Bees to turn their attention to the league once again.  This weekend sees the visit of Accrington Stanley to Underhill Stadium.

Barnet were held to a 1-1 draw at Hereford in their last league fixture. In front of 3645, Barnet took the lead.  In the 5th minute Giuliano Grazioli beat the offside trap and shot home past the oncoming Hereford keeper to the delight of the Barnet faithful.  However, the lead did not last long as Hereford bounced straight back with a David Brown goal to level the scores.  The game was to finish 1-1 as both teams failed to break the deadlock despite Barnet's second half domination.  Unfortunately Carlisle picked up all 3 points at Gravesend's Stonebridge Road which saw them close the gap at the top to 4 points.

Last week saw Accrington in league action due to their early FA Cup exit.  They welcomed Northwich to The Interlink Express Stadium with a 5-0 whitewash.  A crowd of 1203 saw goals courtesy of Flitcroft, Brannan and a hat trick from McEvilly.  The win saw Accrington move up to 3rd place in the table.  They currently sit 9 points behind Barnet having played a game more.

Accrington Stanley emulated Burton by breezing their way through the Unibond League to make it into the Conference for the first time. Of course, Accrington is a famous name in non-league circles having had their record expunged in 1962. They started again and 41 years later they are one step away from getting back to where they came from.

You can be sure for an excellent photographic collection of this game, not just from Chris Holland but also from KIPAX whose website (www.kipax.com) holds a vast array of collections from many Accrington games including 81 of our game at Underhill last season. He tends to concentrate on the fans rather than the action itself and some of the moments he captures are no less than majestic.

Away from home this season, Accrington have won 3, drawn 2 and lost 3.  This has seen them score 12 and concede 15.  Hopefully Barnet's free scoring team (in the league anyway) will be able to take advantage of the leaky Accrington back line.

This season, Accrington's top scorers are Paul Mullin and Lee McEvilly, both weighing in with 8 goals each.  Ged Brannan has also netted 5 so far and I am sure Barnet's England Centre Halves will have their work cut out.  The Bees will be looking to bounce back from their disappointing cup defeat last week and what better game to do it in.
