| Match Preview | |||
Well it's clear for all to see that Martin Allen wants to take this club as far as possible in this Cup and for the first time in a long time it looks very possible that we could end up with a money spinning lucrative third round tie. If we can ride this challenge and progress through the second round, a tie away to Manchester United, Arsenal, Chelsea or Newcastle could be in waiting. Could you imagine? Standing in our way are Stalybridge who were quite disappointed with the draw considering they could've pulled an away tie at Sheffield Wednesday or Hull and be laughing all the way to the bank. Although that could become reality should they be victorious. Without trying to sound arrogant, this is a game Barnet would expect to win but of course, anything can happen when those two teams cross the white line and emerge onto the Underhill turf but one thing is for sure, there will be twenty two players on the field on Saturday who will be fired up for the challenge in front of them. And then there are the three officials who will make a vain attempt to understand the rules of course! Don't you
just love this competition, the potential is there for
anyone to beat anyone. It's the best Cup Competition in
the world, bar none in the best football country in the
world (no, really) |

| As with
Bracknell, Stalybridge aren't a side I know much about
although we did meet in the 2001/2002 season in the
Conference with Celtic taking four points from us in a
season which ended with them in 21st place and relegation
back to the Unibond League. In the game at Bower Fold, the attendance was severely hit by THAT Greece game at Old Trafford and about 100 of the 525 fans left with a big smile on their faces as Wayne Purser equalised in stoppage time (pictured above) At Underhill, Barnet were in an awful spell which saw John Still sacked and any chance of going straight back up quashed and it was no surprise to see Stalybridge pick up three points with two brilliant goals in the first half. Unfortunately that was not enough for Celtic to stay up. At the moment, they sit in 14th place in the Unibond League and have a very respectable average attendance of 588. Their top scorer is Colin Potts with seven and he is closely followed by Steve Foster and Kenny Mayers who have five apiece. It's anyone's guess as to how many supporters they will bring but there are two full coaches coming and hopefully the floating fans will want to follow their team for the FA Cup. We'll just have to wait and see. |
