Match Preview

Not much has changed since the two teams last met if we're talking about league position. Despite my personal opinion that The Shots would not be able to keep themselves at the top, they have done it quite well and keep themselves up there and a Playoff place is well within reach. Should they go up, it would complete an amazing 12 year journey through the depths of the Non-League pyramid.

Both sides have the common goal of getting back their league status, have the same points total and are only separated by one goal. Both sides have had their ups and their downs, The Shots have a good home record and Barnet have a good away record. To say that a draw is written all over this game would be an understatement.

Whatever the result though, we can be guaranteed a large attendance and an intimidating atmosphere for the Sky Cameras. It will also be interesting to see whether the more colourful members of Aldershot's "support" will turn up. Make no mistake, these people are nothing compared to the real supporters of Aldershot Town who have been here there and everywhere with their team over the past years. These are the sort of people I certainly have time for and it is a reflection on real support.

Onto the football then and Guiliano Grazioli has found his shooting boots again with four in the last two matches against Dagenham and Margate. Even after one game, it seems Simon Clist is what we have been missing in midfield since the departure of Lewis Hogg. Also, it would be nice to see Liam Hatch continue his form from the Margate game.

In my opinion, defeat for either side will probably mean that the chances of catching league leaders Chester City will be very slim. For the winners, who knows.

I think I speak for everyone when I say the following; let's have a more interesting game than the last time Barnet were on Sky!

It is my belief that should Aldershot not do it this year, then next year they will. I will hold my hands up and admit I was wrong. I considered them to be mid-table also rans who would have to bide their time in mounting a promotion push. They have played some good football and are well in with a chance of promotion. Their only downfall has been a slight touch of inconsistency, which you can compare with ourselves.

Recent results have been mixed with three wins, one draw and two defeats. Three of the worst sides in the league took seven points off them in that phase, with a 1-1 draw at Northwich, a 2-0 defeat at home to Margate and a 4-0 defeat at neighbours Farnborough. Let's hope that the defeat at Farnborough was not just a one off!

One thing you can also comment on about Aldershot is their support. Both home and away, the amount of people travelling to watch Aldershot is nothing short of stunning. Their average attendance is 3,315 and bringing 686 to Underhill in September tells you something also. You can guarantee a big attendance for Friday's game also. Fair play to them.

Their main source of goals in the league have been Tim Sills (13) and England Semi-Pro Striker Roscoe D'Sane (12) but with a total of 56 goals suggests that they can score from all over the park. Their let down has been the defence, with a lot of goals going past them as well, 45 in all. 101 goals in all then, I bet that has been rather entertaining!

With their attack being so strong, it will be tough for Barnet to hold out without Chris Plummer at the back, but it is a similar story the other way round. It promises to be good!
