Programme Notes

Brentford, 14 October 2003

Good evening and welcome to the BFCSA page.

Well, here we are again in the LDV Vans Trophy. After last year's disappointment of not being allowed to compete due to the ground not being up to scratch we are now back in. Thankfully it was the League criteria that changed, giving us another chance.

Two seasons ago (the ground was okay then!) we had a fantastic run, going all the way to the semi-final of the southern section. Unfortunately we lost 2-0 up at Cambridge United in front of 3108 spectators.

This has been our only cup run for a long time and hopefully tonight will be the start of another.

BRENTFORD

I'd like to welcome everyone connected with Brentford to Underhill tonight. It's not the first time the two teams have met in the LDV.

On 30/1/01 we lost 2-1 at home with 1438 fans seeing Mark Gower netting for the Bees.

Of course the most memorable match has to be the 5-5 draw in the Rumbelows Cup back in our inaugural season in the Football League.

As Paul Weller sang with The Jam 'That's entertainment!' and hopefully tonight's encounter will be just as good.

WEBSITE

I haven't mentioned the website for a while. I just like to say my brother John is doing a great job again this season and the 'hits' are rising by the day.

This is partly due to the brilliant photos Chris Holland has been supplying us. It has been agreed with the club that after they've had first refusal we can publish all the other photos Chris has taken during the games. John usually manages to get them on the site within a week of the match and I know a lot of fans wait with eager anticipation. I think this is down to the fact that Chris always gets some fantastic crowd shots (like the one at the top of the page!).

There's lots of other interesting material on the site including all first team results going back to 1965 (I'm just starting to type up teams beginning with R) not to mention old programmes to purchase. Also previews written by our new correspondent James Harrison are very popular. He's doing a much better job than I did last year!

Match reports by fans are another interesting feature. We've built up a good reporting team and they are all doing a cracking job.

So if you are on the Internet and haven't visited the site before then go to www.bfcsa.net and have a look.

QUIZ TEAM

The quiz teams have started their campaigns again for the season. This year we have two teams representing Barnet FC supporters and I'll be bringing you results and fixtures throughout the season.

NON LEAGUE CLUB DIRECTORY

Hopefully everyone who ordered a book will have collected it by now. If not they are available from the kiosk in the front garden of the house next to the Westcombe Drive entrance.

The publishers have also produced a diary. It costs £6.00 and can be ordered from the kiosk, on the Internet at info@bfcsa.net or by phoning the travel anwserphone 01707 647365 leaving your name and phone number.
