Programme Notes

Hereford United, 23 August 2003

Good afternoon and welcome to the BFCSA page.

Firstly I'd like to thank my brother John for doing the notes for the Telford programme while I was sunning myself on Corfu, probably sipping on a large cocktail as he toiled away. I arrived back at 5.00 in the morning of the game, just in time to witness a very solid performance from the new-look team. Unfortunately I couldn't make it to Farnborough, but everyone seems to have had a good time.

As we were lying third in the table afterwards I was feeling very optimistic and hoping for a good result at Dagenham & Redbridge last Saturday. Due to Herefords good start this term I was already planning on opening this column with 'Welcome to the first top of the table clash of the season…' but alas it's not to be.

On the way back from Dagenham, after losing 5-2, I said rather dejectedly to John ' It looks like we're as bad as last year.'

His immediate reply was 'No we're not, we lost 5-1 last time!!' I had to laugh.

Anyway, enough of this doom and gloom. I was talking to Mullers before the game and telling him about Steve Pankhurst's Question & Answers piece in the Barnet Borough Times. When asked about the best advice he'd been given he replied:

'Never regret anything. Don't look back - always look forward.'

So, lets not look back at last weekend's disastrous result and look forward to this afternoon's encounter with Hereford - bring it on!

MEMBERSHIP

Don't forget to join the BFCSA if you haven't already done so. Prices start from £1.50 for concessions and £3.00 for standard membership. This season we want to continue helping the club with various purchases, as we have done in the past. In a forthcoming programme I hope to do a feature on what we have done so far this time. Unfortunately though our funds are dwindling as we have only got the membership money coming in at the moment, so join up now because every penny counts.

We are hoping to raise funds with social events, so watch this space for further news.

OVERSEAS SUPPORTERS

John Adkins and the BFCSA would like to welcome Tor Mollatt Eriksen and his girlfriend Marion Bakke who are attending today's game after travelling all the way from Norway. They will also be going up to Burton, so if you bump into them, give them a big Barnet welcome.

TONY JEFFRIES by Alex Jones

Sad news to report the passing of Tony Jeffries after a long and latterly extremely difficult illness aged just 60. Mal Sorenson introduced Tony to Barnet in the mid 80's after coming down from Lancashire. For him, a perfect weekend would see Barnet, Everton and Lancy all triumph - that and an abundance of real ale!

One of his sayings - yelled out of train carriage windows at train spotters was 'Rest easy my old mate' which seems quite fitting now.
