  The Season So Far

Poor old Kettering have had a dreadful start to their Conference campaign. Things off the pitch seem just as bad as on. Reading through the headlines on their independent website are stories relating to the Chairmam, Peter Mallinger, wanting to accept 'reasonable offers' for the Club, a certain Roger Willis being bought from Peterborough United - then deciding he dosn't want to play for the 'Poppies' and another piece saying four players have been released, including last seasons top marksman Dale Watkins who hasn't found the net this season and 'appears to have lost interest!'. You thought Barnet had problems!!

On the pitch they've only won twice, once at home to Morcambe(3-2) and away last Saturday to Farnborough Town(1-0). That win had followed four straight defeats.

At home they lost 0-1 to Yeovil and 2-3 to Hereford and have scored ten goals(the same as Barnet!) whilst conceeding 16, so it's possible they are capable of holding their own.

It's normal practice for a team to reach a purple patch just as the Bees role into town so this has 'banana skin' written all over it. Saying that I think the Lads will excel themselves this weekend and show us what they're made of and return triumphant with all three points.

Footnote (by ed) Kettering only just won the Dr Martens championship last season - and with it, promotion to the Conference. It all came down to the last game of the season as they were in a two horse race with Tamworth. On the day Tamworth drew 3-3 against Folkestone Invicta; had they won they would have beaten Kettering on goal difference. Meanwhile Kettering won away, 3-2, against a certain Devon team by the name of Tiverton Town!

Updated 17 October

We received the following email from www.ketteringtownfc.com

"Admission prices were increased about two weeks ago (after the club was put
up for sale) and a quid was added onto all prices, now £10.50 and £8.

Segregation is usually in force, with away fans allocated the open
terracing behind the goal at the Rockingham Road end and entry into the main
stand also. The away end has no cover but it does have a tea/burger bar.

The car park behind the away end is tiny and they charge to park, whereas
about 1/4 mile down Northfield Ave (off Rockingham Rd) there is a large free
Co-op car park.

The Town centre is only a mile or so from the ground and has numerous Pubs
and food places.

We just signed Spurs reserve keeper Gavin Kelly on a month's loan, hence
last Saturday's clean sheet!

We beat Tiverton 2-1 away at the end of the season to scrape promotion.

cheers and lets hope it's a good game on Saturday."
