  The Season So Far

Both Barnet and Doncasters games were postponed on New Years day, so they should be in fine fighting form for this one.

Doncaster are having a great season and if Yeovil's slight glitch continues then Rovers are definitely in with a shout.

Their home record is lot better than their away, with no defeats and only conceeding four goals. Away though, the keeper has had to pick the ball up out of the net twenty-one times but still only lost three.

The last game they lost was against Morecambe, 0-3 eight games ago and they currently top the current form table.

This promises to be an exciting clash and Barnet seem to able to defend a lot better since the arrival of Ian Hendon.

History

Doncaster Rovers were formed in 1879 playing friendly matches on local playing fields until 1885/6 when the obtained their first pitch. They played Loughborough in the newly formed Midland Football Alliance on September 20th 1890, going on to win their first trophy that season, The Sheffield and Hallamshire Cup, beating Sheffield United, and ending second in the league.

On September 5th 1891 they played their first game in the Midland League going on to win the title in 1898/99.

1901/02 saw them playing in the Football League, finishing seventh in Division 2, their highest ever placing.

After being back in the Midland League, they joined the Third Division North in 1923. They stayed there until winning the championship in 1935, but only lasted two seasons in Division two.

After the War they won the league with 72 points, but only lasted one season before relegation.

In the 1949/50 season they again won promotion to Division 2. This time they stayed up until 1957/58 attracting their largest average crowds ever. 1950/51 and 52/53 saw averages of 22,799 and 21,066 respectively.

1965/66 saw Rovers winning Division 4 but again only lasting one season in the higher league. They then ' yo-yoed' their way between the lower two divisions (mainly in the lower) until disaster struck in the 97/98 season they ended bottom of Division 3 and were relegated to the Conference. It was the normal story of lack of funds and having to sell the better players that sealed their fate.

Spending the last four seasons in the non-league has seen them finishing 16th,12th, 9th and 4th last season. This gradual improvement shows the Rovers want to get back into the Football League and they are one of the favourites this term.
