Daggers boss insists Rovers are favourites

Dagenham & Redbridge boss Garry Hill has insisted Doncaster Rovers are the favourites ahead of their Nationwide Conference play-off final at Stoke's Britannia Stadium.

The Daggers were destroyed 5-1 at Belle Vue in September and Hill said: "They have had good results against us this year - that makes them the favourites. But we are looking forward to it.

"Doncaster are a very good side. They are the full-time club and it's certainly going to be very hard."

Dagenham have become known for their cup runs in recent years but Hill preferred to emphasise their consistent league form.

"Our record speaks for itself in one-off games but I think it is a bit unfair when we are referred to as just a good cup side," he added.

"We have been very consistent in the Conference - and I think Doncaster will pay us respect."

Rovers boss Dave Penney is happy with his team's form and is taking heart from their good results against the Daggers.

He said: "We know we can score goals against them. We had a 3-3 draw against them at their place.

"They are a big, tough team and a good cup team but we are confident."

Doncaster initially struggled after dropping out of the Football League in 1998 but in the last two years have shown the quality needed to make the leap back into Division Three.

Penney said: "Promotion is all this club has been aiming for since we got relegated five years ago. It is massive for the club and of course for the town."
