Do I Not Know That?

The Final Conflict

by Alex Jones

2 May 2002

Last weekend the Barnet F.C. Quiz Team Travelled on from Northwich to Manchester for the final programmes on ITV's serial ''Do I Not Know That'' show.

The good people at Granada paid for us to stay at a centrally located hotel with the worst Bar Staff in the Northern Hemisphere!

But despite some dedicated revision that evening we failed to reach the Final, although John Erroll once again shone in his specialist round of 'The season just gone'.

Unfortunately we were unable to catch an excellent Villa side whose finger was permanently poised on the buzzer, (as with many things in life, it's down to the wrist action!) Aston Villa were foiled in the Final by Wimbledon, two of whom we recognised from the regular Home Counties competition.

I don't know when or if ever these shows will be transmitted as the situation with ITV Digital seems to change almost hourly.

To put the competion into perspective, from an initial field of 108, Barnet reached the last 9, where we outscored Liverpool and Manchester United. Unlike Manchester City, we didn't hold a selection process, otherwise I wouldn't have been accompanying fellow members Rude Kid, Steve and Ann Percy, or Dave Bown.

I enjoyed the experience, the atmosphere between the teams was generally good (West Brom and Villa seemed to enjoy a healthy mutual hatred). It's to be hoped that the show will live on, although you have to wonder if they'll invite back 'Conference Upstarts' again!

If you want more information, there is a website on ITV Sport. (Group I...)
