Good afternoon and
welcome to the BFCSA page.
THE POWER OF
PRAYER?
Living in East Barnet,
as I do, a copy of the Church Hill Herald fell through my
letterbox the other day. This is a pamphlet for the
Parish of St. Mary. With nothing better to do at the time
I skimmed through it, and read the following article by
the Editor, Mike Pearce.
He wrote;
"I've asked God
to send me a gorgeous girlfriend, but He hasn't
obliged - yet. My pal Eric has begged for a win on
the lottery, which, his Lord has assured him just
might come off if he takes the trouble to buy a
ticket. And in Barnet there are about a thousand
simple souls who believe the Bees can climb back into
Division Three.
As the man said, the
impossible we can do today - miracles take a little
longer."
I don't know about you,
but I'm not sure if I like being called a simple soul.
It's one thing being insulted by the opposition's fans
but I didn't expect it from the local church!
Anyway Mike, it's good
to see we are in your prayers and when your time comes to
enter the 'Pearly Gates' lets hope the late Stan Flashman
hasn't got a monopoly on the tickets!
As for miracles -
there's more chance of the Bees gaining promotion than
the other two!!

Well, I suppose it's
about time I introduced myself to you, so here goes:
I've got a very short
memory, hence my last two answers. I first came to Barnet
with my Dad and elder brother Dave back in the late 60's.
Even with my short
memory I can still recall going to Wembley for the FA
Trophy Final against Stafford Rangers, two exciting
clashes with QPR in the FA Cup third round (with
Underhill packed to the rafters) and various other
triumphs.
For one reason or
another I stopped going in the late 70's and didn't grace
the slope of Underhill until the 16th September 1995 when
the Bees lost 1-2 to Plymouth Argyle. I sat with my two
daughters in the family stand, again with Dave and his
sons on a thundery afternoon.
When Mark Cooper scored
what looked to be a mis-hit goal I realised what I had
been missing and was hooked again. Barnet were bottom of
the league after that match, but slowly climbed the table
to flirt with a play-off place and finished in ninth
position after a total thrashing of Fulham by 3 goals to
0.
Since then I've only
missed a couple of home games - even changing my job
because I worked alternate Saturdays - so I could watch
the Mighty Bees.
Do you know anyone who
is a lapsed Barnet fan? Why not talk them into coming to
a game? You never know they might just get hooked again
like I did!
As well as being on the
BFCSA Committee I help my brother John with
www.bfcsa.co.uk. I'm currently working on all the results
in an A-Z index and after a year I've got as far as D. If
you're looking for a team beginning with Z you'll
probably have to wait until 2007!
After introducing John
to the Barnet experience a few years ago he is now an
avid fan as well and will tell you about the website in
more detail in the next programme.
